    Question: It seems to me that if I were to find my Magnetic and PSC in these equations that the opposite would be true, in that if I had a variation of some degree West and a deviation of some degree East, I would want to subtract the degree W and add the degree E to find these values.

    I know how to correctly answer these problems, but i’m having trouble understanding why this is correct. If I have a true heading of some value and magnetic direction varies some degree west, shouldn’t I subtract from true to get magnetic?
