    Question: While underway you see the lights illustrated with yellow lights flashing. You should…

    Image: 3 yellow lights in a row, two sets of verticle red lights, followed by three yellow lights in a row.

    The correct answer is: Pass between the two sets of verticle red lights

    Can someone explain what this is?

    Hey Michael,

    Read Rule 27 (d)(iv) again:

    (d) A vessel engaged in dredging or underwater operations, when restricted in her ability to maneuver, shall exhibit the lights and shapes prescribed in Rules 27(b)(i), (ii) and (iii) and shall in addition when an obstruction exists, exhibit:

    (i) two all-round red lights or two balls in a vertical line to indicate the side on which the obstruction exists;

    So if you have two sets of red lights vertically, you should pass to left of one and the right of the other as the yellow lights indicate a pipeline… therefore you should go between!
